Pimped RD ... coming out.
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:13:32 AM »

Finally got my 1975 RD350B back in shape after several years  ..

Lots of goodies on this one: HVC chambers, MotoCarerra rearsets, Don Vesco swingarm, Excel alloy rims, Avon roadrace rubber, Works Shocks, forks by RaceTech (goldvalves, springs etc), MZB CDI electronic ignition etc etc.

As always, thanks to my friend Scott Kolb at Kolb Machine ..

I really like that seat.  Where did you score that?

Hi .. the seat is made by HVC.   http://www.hvccycle.com/seats-yamaha.html

I had the seat re-made with slight modifications and with better quality foam by local seat specialist .  It is now very comfortable ...

I only wish someone would make one with a lightweight plastic seat pan that mounted in the stock position.  Now that would be trick!

good work

what handle bars are those ?

I think they are LSL Superbike bars .. something I had on the shelf from another project.

I think they look a bit tall, but they are so comfortable that I am willing to give up some fashion for function.  At 48, I dont do clip-ons or really low bars on the street any longer.

I may switch to a chrome bar one of these days if I can find the right bend ..

These bars are anodized silver and I am still on the fence about whether they look right with the rest of the bike.

IMHO there is no prettier 2 stroke than a tastefully don RD350 or R5 and that is a beauty indeed!  Very nicely done!

Thanks FloridaSteve ... that means a lot coming from you.

And thanks to all for the positive thoughts.

Finally got the bike registered and took it out for a real shake down run yesterday (despite the heat).  The suspension modifications really worked out well allowing confidence while leaned over deeply into turns and flicking through tight back roads here in CT.  Jetting is close, but I still have a flattish spot in the mid-range that I have to sort out.  The pipes allow for decent low-end/mid and come on strong at about 7000rpm.  They sound very nice.  I forgot how wooden these brakes feel .. even when properly set up.  That may be the next item on the hit parade .. Brembos perhaps?

I thought my blue haze shriek would piss off the locals but everyone seemed to have a big smile on their face about the bike, waving and giving thumbs up.  Several non-bike types even approached with old RD stories to share.  My, how times have changed.

I'll post up a vid in a couple weeks ...

Later,

RD
