1970's 3 wheel 2 stroke trike?
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:57:52 PM »
I grew up in a small town in Tennessee and can remember one of my cousin's getting a brand new 2 stroke trike that had just landed at our local motorcycle shop (1974?). It had about a 500cc twin cyl 2 stroke engine with an automatic two speed centrifugal clutch, large rear studded (off-road) tires and a red fiberglass body. You sat in it rather than on it. This thing would do bad-ass burnouts and would scream up to 100mph. Was one of the coolest things of it's time in my eyes. I tried to do a number of searches and couldn't come up with anything.

Anyone remember such a machine. I'm going to try and get hold of him to see if he remembers the details and make.

Found a little info from a old guy in Fl that has one he bought in 1972 when he lived in PA..
It was a Allsport Trike with a 2 cyl 340cc Kohler 2 stroke engine.
He said the Kohler engine went south on him some 10-15 years ago and he couldn't find parts so he took a 4 cycle golf cart motor and fit it in. Been setting in his shed for years. He said that he will send me some pics in the next day or two.

Death machine or not, it would be sweet as hell to have the street legal one.  That would be fun to cruise around on.

Hello to all on the forum.  I came across this post from an Internet search engine.  I currently own one of these machines.  It has the 340cc Kohler 2-stroke engine.  It will carry my 200# plus person at speeds in excess of 55 MPH.  The feet are placed on foot pegs that extend fron the front wheel; it is a rather comfortable riding position.  If you are looking for more information on these, there is some to be found out on the Internet.  You might try www.alsportatv.net for some information on the street legal model (RTS 340/290 SL).
