Even on  "stockish" 400's?  350's sure!

I found that the Spec II pipes have a sort of built in rev limiter of sorts or they sign off somewhere around 10k.. The classics, that is.  When the 4th clip was on, it signed off even earlier.  The 5th clip raised that rev ceiling...

when tuned right, classics will allow the motor to rev past 11 easily.. way more than useable.
 trust me on this one

^^ That is absolutely positively correct...classics and F1's will both easily rev past 10k and still pull. They don't really start working REALLY WELL until 5800-6000, no way are they shutting down at 9k.

Sounds like you have more tuning to do Kevin.  Laugh   LETS ALL BEAT THIS DEAD HORSE

Kevin, have you tried the two tens yet? 220s are really just a starting point, and that is a bit too rich. Even 2l0s may be a bit rich, I've found 200s good for a 400. Leave 'em in if you want, just sayin...

It was ugly...had that RD-350 for 22 years, and it was running terrific--then it caught fire and burned up. I STILL miss that bike. Sad Sad

I get into problems if i go too lean.  The 220 is like insurance for a variety of occasions (cold/night/rev limiter/cooling/stupidity).

Like I said, as long as i can rev to 9k , i;m happy.  I need this motor to make it through the summer...the higher the revs the more this thing will want to eat a piston.  So I have my little guidlines to milk it along.

Me and Judy just did the Carson Loop....about a 4 hour ride....Vancouver, Amboy, Chelatchie Prairie, Cougar, FS90 to Pine Creek, right turn to go to Eagle Creek and on to Curly Creek and Wind River, through Carson, then Washougal River rd... back home.  No issues.

I am curious about the 210.  Couldn't hurt to try it.

230 too rich.  220 when you flat out WFO and the revs get to about 10  (noticed this bring the front end way up in 2nd no clutch and hitting a soft flat wall of sorts...thought it was a built in rev limiter), it feels like a soft flat spot...like a built in rev limiter.  So is this what slightly rich feels like?  sorta like the pre-crossover RD350 flat spot...but subtle..kiinda rolls into it smooth and stops.

it would be a riot if the wheel would popcorn in 3rd w/ a 210.

I ride by there occasionally.  What's that area all about in the summer time?  I know the snowmobile guys go "APeshi*" up there in the winter.  Judy got a head start on my by 20 minutes on the ride today, so I hauled ass on I-5 and took the latest exit  to battleground and rode up that way.  Had a nice Cougar Burger & fries @ the cougar gas station and a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.  Man, and then Judy shows up, seems i beat her by 20 minutes when i arrived in Cougar, although she started 20 minutes before me!!

they are laying pea gravel and Chip Seal on Fargher Lake  road....hate that crap.

Ape Caves are old lave tubes from a past St Helens eruption, longest cave/tube is about 1.5 miles long
underground/dark/in the mid 1970's/guess?

i"m gonna leave the bike alone.  I've already been spooked by a holed piston.  Bike runs good enough.  I need a little extra protection anyways in all sorts of conditions and when you can ride 4 hours in Sasquatch country w/ consistent power, it's all good.  long straights with big mains sure helps the midrange.  don't want it getting too hot on those long stretches.

I am going to heed Lyn's advice OH an no burning smells.  Even after those long rides.   very little blowout of the flanges....that is a good sign.

good enough.  And it's cold today too..

da da da-da duuuuuun!
