Another RD250/Ninja 250 swap
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:25:54 PM »
Hi All! New here,old to the 2 stroke world though,worked as motorcycle mechanic during the 70's and got to see all this stuff when it was new..Been fiddeling with scooters for a few years and got the bug to start a street 2 stroke project,the only logical choice is the RD line.Picked up this 'parts bike' on ebay for $125;

It was locked up and I started the tear down,left piston stuck and crank bearings rusted,got the crank loose,but the piston has only moved 10mm,will fabricate a 'pusher' to get it out.STD bore,hope to save the jugs..

Now,here is the donor frame,a little sweet heart Ninja I swapped for a jetski,used to be mine so I know it,runs great but m in sc sparked the idea of making this little popper into a smoker!

Thanks m in sc!!
I've been building pipes since the 70's so that'll be the part I'm looking foward to,my budget is very limited,but hope to have a screamer when its done!!

are there custom glass kits for the older ninjas? i can't stand the "it's 1982 in 1999 look" of the old stuff

I'm more of a function instead of looks kinda guy.The plastic is dated but its paid for!While considering this build,by the time ya mod the stock bike with disc brakes,forks,decent rear suspension,modern wheels and tires,heck a man could just swap an RD into a later model frame!I also dont have a title for the RD but the Ninja does!! :)

Yellowandfast,What do you want that huge rack for?Are you a deer hunter?It'd be ideal for strapping a fresh kill to the back of the old RD to take home to the wife to process!(just kidding!)

I got a big-ass rack for a 400.  I don't think it's ever been mounted.

Watch out for Poppaweelie, though.  he's a rack hoarder!   :laugh:  He may be trying to get a monopoly on RD racks.

Both Mark. Did you sell the hybrid or do you still have it too? I remeber the Ninja hybrid from a couple yrs ago at the Gap.
